Title:    Reading Specialist

Department: Learning Services

Position Summary:  The Reading Specialist at Wasatch Academy is a teacher for students experiencing reading difficulties, who functions as a literacy or reading coach and as a supervisor or coordinator of reading/literacy professional development and program development.

General Duties & Responsibilities:
●    Support Wasatch Academy’s mission, values, institutional goals and educational philosophy.
●    Work directly with students with diagnosis of dyslexia implementing a 1:1 Wilson Reading intervention.
●    Serve as a resource in the area of reading for teachers and administrators.
●    Work cooperatively and collaboratively with other professionals in planning programs to meet the needs of diverse populations of learners.
●    Provide professional development opportunities for Wasatch Academy faculty.
●    Provide leadership in student advocacy.
●    Screen/test students to establish proper reading intervention placement.
●    Provide diagnostic, prescriptive and evaluative services for identified students.
●    Provide individual and small group instruction for identified students.
●    Confer with the Dean of Student and Parent Services on the needs of the reading program.
●    Other duties as required.

Qualifications:
●    Bachelor’s degree in Special Education with concentration in Reading/Literacy Education. Master of Education in Special Education, Literacy/Reading concentration preferred.
●    Minimum: Wilson Reading System Level 1 Certification; Level 2 Certification preferred.
●    Previous teaching experience.
●    Understand reading and literacy theory and practice.
●    Communicate in a clear and timely manner.

Reports to: Dean of Parent and Student Support Services
Compensation: $30,000 – $45,000

Title:    Director of Experiential and Sustainability Education

Position Summary:  Wasatch Academy, an 8-12 coed boarding school, located in Central Utah, invites applications for a full-time administrative position as Director of Experiential and Sustainability Education.

General Duties & Responsibilities:
The Director of Experiential and Sustainability Education will have primary responsibility for the development, coordination and primary oversight of experiential and sustainability education at Wasatch Academy. Working collaboratively with the Dean of Academics, administration, and faculty, the Director will regularly inventory and evaluate our current academic offerings in campus-wide experiential and sustainability offerings and sustainability performance in a manner that enables projects to link to local and global sustainability courses, collaborative research, facilities projects, and student-led initiatives.

The Director will lead the assessment of the effectiveness of the development of learning outcomes
and in the design and implementation of programs in experiential and sustainability education
and work with the Dean of Academics on program assessment and analysis. In collaboration
with the the Dean of Academics, administration, and faculty, the Director will develop and lead
the implementation of a comprehensive, coordinated multi-year strategic plan for Wasatch
Academy in the area of Experiential and Sustainability Education to promote educational
experiences for students grounded in the current themes of sustainable thinking, being, and
action. The Director will monitor and report progress toward campus sustainability goals,
including preparation of greenhouse gas inventories and actions to attain climate neutral.

The Director will have the opportunity to teach up to two courses per year and partner with the Dean
of Academics for Faculty Development in the development and support of a robust academic year
and summer research program in sustainability research and develop and co-facilitate
summer faculty development workshops in sustainability education. The Director may also
coordinate projects and programs that engage students with experiential and sustainability
education such as developing and sustaining an organic garden, facilities projects, and service
learning and community service projects.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in
experiential or sustainability education, environmental science, or a related field with a minimum
of five years of professional work experience in the field of experiential and/or sustainability
education

Reports to: Dean of Academics

Terms of Employment: This is a 10 or 12-month administrative appointment responsible to the
Dean of Academics with responsibilities for the development, coordination and primary
oversight of experiential and sustainability education at Wasatch Academy.
