Standardized tests are an important part of the college admissions process, but colleges and universities use a number of criteria when making admissions decision. Our college counselors will make sure that your child is well prepared to take the SAT, ACT, and for international students, the TOEFL. They will also make sure your student stays informed about upcoming testing dates. Here’s an overview of what to expect.
ACT and SAT
Wasatch Academy recommends that juniors take both the ACT and SAT in April and May to assess which exam they score higher on and which test format they prefer. All colleges throughout the country will accept either the SAT or the ACT. Seniors are likewise encouraged to take the exams again in September, October, and/or November of the senior year. Wasatch Academy recommends that students take the December tests as well, if needed. It is the student’s responsibility to take the proper tests and to have the scores sent to colleges by the testing agency.
Extended Time on SAT/ACT
Students who have documentation which qualifies them for extended time on the SAT and/or ACT must contact the Learning Strategies Department at Wasatch Academy well in advance of the registration deadlines (published at www.collegeboard.com/ssd and www.act.org/aap/disab). Requests for extended time consideration and all documentation must be on file with the Learning Strategies Department by August of the year the student enrolls at Wasatch Academy.
Advanced Placement Examinations
Students in Advanced Placement classes are expected to take the Advanced Placement Examinations in May. Successful candidates may earn college credit, advanced standing, or exemption from certain courses.
Students whose native language is not English are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) during their junior and senior years. All American colleges and universities require this test for international students and others who do not speak English at home.
Taking the Test
The SAT Reasoning Test and Subject Tests are administered at Wasatch Academy in October, November, December, and May. Our test center number is 45-115. The ACT is administered at Snow College.
School Code Numbers
Wasatch Academy’s school code number is 450-230. Use this for all College Board, ACT, and Advanced Placement testing, and on all college application materials. Be sure that this number is on your registration forms.
