World Languages
World Languages at Wasatch Academy focus on developing students’ cultural and linguistic competencies, building their skills from foundational to advanced. Living in a global world, the world language department recognizes the importance for students to apply the use of language in academic, social, and professional settings. As such, students are challenged to learn through both academic and experiential curricula.
Courses

This course introduces students to the Spanish language and cultures, with emphasis on the four strands of language development: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.

Spanish 2 is a continuation of the Spanish 1 course to the Spanish language and cultures. They develop more functionality in the language, allowing them to engage in basic conversations and greater exploration of how cultures impact each other. In the second term of Spanish 2 students will begin to learn narration in the past.

This course has an increased emphasis on speech and language creation and production. It also emphasizes on more complex grammar structures as well as increased understanding of global Hispanic culture where students are able to talk about things in the present, the past, the future and talk about possibilities and contrary to fact situations as well as write simple essays.

This introductory course sets the basic language and cultural foundation of Chinese, it seeks to develop students’ communicative competence that will be built upon in more advanced courses.

This course focuses on setting a solid and comprehensive language and cultural foundation of Chinese, it seeks to strengthen students’ communicative competence that enables them to have simple daily conversations and gain an appreciation of the culture.

This course focuses on sharpening students’ communicative competence that enables them to have daily conversations in real life and have a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.
